First Sergeant Fund
What is the First Sergeant's Fund Family Group?
The 1st Sgt. Fund Family group is a non-profit (501C3)
volunteer group consisting of family of soldiers from the
1-163rd Infantry Battalions Charlie Company. Unlike the FRG
( Family Readiness Group), it is not officially affiliated
with the military, but it does maintain close contact with
both the FRG and the Charlie Company officers and abides by
the rules that protect the safety and confidentiality of our
soldiers and their families. The !st Sgt. Fund Family Group
complements the FRG by providing services that are not
witnin the FRG scope and mission and by being active even
during lulls in FRG activity. Unike the FRG, the First
Sergeants Fund Family Group is indeed a support group.
Why is there a First Sergeant's Fund Family Group?
The idea to begin this effort was sparked by folks who
wanted to donate postage money for mailing packages to the
soldiers or donate personal and food items for soldiers or
for families in financial crisis. Because these acitvities
are not within the scope of the FRG, a separate mechanism
was needed. So the First Sergeant's Fund Family Group was
formed initially to be able to send boxes to the soldiers of
Charlie Company. Activities have since expanded to include
social events and aide to famlies with special needs.
How did the group get its name?
The name is derived from the First Sergeant's Creed,
which designates the job of the First Sergeant as making
sure that his soldiers have what they need -emotionally and
physically. The 1st Sgt. Fund Family Group simply expands
that mission to the families impacted by deployment or other
demands of military life. Events and
