The Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce has taken up the Addiction Initiative in response to the combination of the growing substance abuse and lack of resources for community members in recovery from addiction. This community issue has direct impacts on Missoula’s workforce. The work of the Missoula Chamber connects businesses with the resources available to assist current, past and future employees as they work through their journey of recovery.

The Chamber has worked to connect businesses and nonprofit agencies with resources and experts to expand options for those facing addiction issues in Missoula. Our work has involved Missoula’s 4th D Club as well as Montana’s former Attorney General Tim Fox and former US Attorney Kurt Alme. The latter resulted in a $234,000 grant to United Way of Missoula County to fund a countywide substance abuse prevention project. The Chamber will continue to work in collaboration with United Way and will serve on the initiative's leadership round table.

Breaking Down Workforce Barriers

In January of 2019, The Chamber's annual State of Missoula Luncheon panel focused on addiction concerns impacting Missoula's workforce and community. Speakers at the event included Montana State Attorney General Tim Fox, Dean Christensen of Missoula Police Department, and Levi Bessette, an addiction recovery advocate.
The Chamber is still seeking business and community members to create an Addiction Initiative Task Force. If you would like to get involved in this initiative, please contact the Chamber.
